inSIGHT TRIBE
inSight Groups meet regularly, and are made up of dedicated and wise leaders, supporters, and people who have come to get support for their struggles and challenges they face in life.
inSight seeks to be powerful, challenging, and supportive to anyone over the age of 18. It is a place to learn and teach, share and grow. At inSight Tribe we stand by each other through our darkest hours and our greatest triumphs.
inSight Groups are currently based in Redlands in Brisbane and Gladstone Australia.
inSight Tribe was originally created in 2012 as a response to recognising that there was a huge lack of appropriate services for Men in the Gladstone region. The founder, Paul Stewart, had a passion for working with men, and recognised that the suicide rate for men was very high, particularly where family breakdown was involved. Together with Stacey Gernetsky, the coordinator of Hopelink, set about to create an environment for men who had gone through family breakdown to come and receive support, as well as to be challenged to their true responsibilities.
While inSight Men's Circle started off small, over the months and years it grew and grew, working with many men in desperate crisis, as well as calling on other good men from the community to come and stand by them through their darkest hours and their greatest triumphs. At inSight, everybody learns, changes and grows, as we are confronted with the reality of who we are. The philosophy worked with was: Standing by each other.
Over time, inSight Men's Circle moved from just focusing on family breakdown, but recognising that the issues that led to and fro family breakdown was pretty much every issue that a man can face in his life and his identity. So inSight Men' Circle deals with whatever issues arise for men in their lives.
Several years later, Paul was approached with the challenge of parents who were struggling with teenagers, and wondering what could be done to support them. From this, Teen Tribe was born, running under a similar format, but focusing on the needs of parenting Teens. The philosophy developed was this: "The greatest gift that any parent can ever give their child, is to live to their full potential. Are you living to yours?", because after all, how often do we make our kids responsible for our own unfulfilled expectations of ourselves? What if the behaviour of kids is just a reflection of the dysfunction of the adults in their lives?
Over time it came to be recognised that Teen Tribe was working with more than just teen issues and the challenges of parenting, but with the issues of relationship, the dynamics of men and women, personal identity, creating amazing futures, healing the past, and being present with our current experiences. Teen Tribe morphed into inSight Circle, for both men and women.
Of course, this naturally meant that there was a need for a group for women. Danielle Worthington became the first mentor for inSight Women's Circle, and wanted a place for women to genuinely connect with one another, rather than the sometimes thin connections based on the expectations and roles that women can have with one another. What she created was a beautiful place for women to come together and to share heart and soul about the challenges and opportunities that women face in their lives, mirroring the work done at the Men's Circle.
Paul and Tina Stewart have also started the Redlands inSight Circle in Brisbane, and have been blown away by the good men and women who have stepped up to make such an endeavour possible, and to create an opportunity for it to grow.
Many great men and women have come to become leaders and mentors in these groups, and people who need to be acknowledged include Shaun, John, Danielle, Margy, Russell, Mitch, Ahyden, Andrew, Tracey, Jenny, Graham, Tina, Rob, Jane, Elissa, Gina, Deb and countless others. To all of you, a deep sense of thanks for your remarkable dedication and service to being the great role-models our community cries out for. You are all unsung heroes.
Special acknowledgement needs to be made to our partners with Hopelink and Shed 19, the Gladstone Church of Christ, the Redlands Church of Christ, who have taken a deep breath and given an opportunity to create meaningful outreach into the community. Your contribution will never be forgotten.
There is so much energy and passion as we build communities of caring through inSight Tribe Circles. inSight is an experience, as people are supported and challenged to grow and reach their true potentials. We look forward to you coming and joining us, finding the courage to step through the door...
